A. I am your friend. I don’t work in education. You are talking to me about the idea that we all learn from each other, in all kinds of contexts, and that this can often be richer than more formal classroom based learning. I am sceptical. Tell me about an informal learning experience you have had online in which collaboration was involved, show me a concrete example to help me to see what you mean.

Though I didn’t have any experience with online virtual worlds and I was not even interested neither in video games nor comics or films, except some popular ones broadcasted in open TV, once I get involved in the use and possibilities of some web resources, because of my personal and work interests, I have really been enjoying all of them at the same I learn a lot.

In my attempt to integrate technology into the classroom, taking into account my students’ interests and needs, my first approach to virtual world environments where I could learn at the same time I had fun, started right there in my work place.

I realized that formal classroom based learning is not longer enough to fulfill their educational expectancies although they carried out some English group projects dealing with EFL concentrated in reading at school.

So first, by exploring open learning resources, I found in the web, diverse educational groups for teachers concerned with motivating students for lifelong learning through project-based, experiential, and blended learning using miniQuests, WebQuests, moodle, wikis, blogs, and other web 2.0 applications as well as book and social net working tools for teaching and learning.

B. We all explore new technologies, some grab our attention more than others, some seem revolutionary, others simply bore us. Tell us about that new tool, or set of tools, you have just discovered that really excites you, talk about the potential it has to change your work. What do you want to do with it?

Moodle has caught my interest because of its high availability in course management, though I have very recently used it as a creator at my school where I am trying to start a blended on line project called inglescch.net and now I am making my debut as a user here in mvn08.

Sharing and learning useful and practical experiences with everyone involved in educational efforts, motivates me to continue this exciting online adventure.

C. Do you see yourself as a pioneer? Do you think you are more innovative than others in your organisation? Do you think your organisation is lagging behind? Tell us how you feel about this?

As a participant in recent blended learning experiences at the UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México), I have already learned things of value, such as taking part in forums and discussions to finally prepare a final work. You may take a look to its online proposals http://www.cuaed.unam.mx/.

I am an innovator at my school together with a few group of experimental teachers because at last, we have started combining some web 2.0 resources and tools to design, develop and implement blended learning. However, most of the teacher’ staff are still using traditional technologies (chalk and blackboard).
